Advancing Diversity in the Renewable Energy Sector

The workforce from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds currently stands at 7% in the energy sector according to the Energy & Utilities Skills Partnership

Professionals network

Power To Diversity is a network for Ethnic Minority engineers, scientists and technicians working in the renewable energy/low carbon fields who are passionate about energy and increasing Ethnic Minority representation in the low carbon/renewable energy.

As the world transitions from using fossil fuels and natural gas, Ethnic Minority engineers, scientists and technicians also need to be represented in low carbon energy areas in order to provide the skills and innovation required for decarbonisation.

On 18th November 2020, the UK government released their Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution in which they detailed that £12 billion will be mobilised to support the creation of up to 250,000 jobs by 2030 and 2 million by 2050. This presents a huge opportunity to help sectors transition to low carbon industries and contribute to environmental goals with a diverse workforce with a range of skills and backgrounds on order to reach Net Zero.

This requires Ethnic Minority professionals in a range of areas in the renewable energy sector (electric vehicles, hydrogen and carbon capture to name a few). This network and community brings together those with a diverse mix of skills from scientists, engineers to technicians.
